OVI crash suspect charged with aggravated assault while driving: Westlake Police Blotter


OVI Crash: Crocker Road

The Avon Police Department at 9:30 p.m. on July 3 notified the Westlake Police Department that Avon officers were pursuing an SUV toward Westlake on Avon Road.

Avon officers responded to a call from a woman passed out at the wheel. The driver fled after officers arrived. Avon agents lost the SUV after it entered Westlake.

Westlake officers located the suspect’s SUV on Crocker Road in Detroit Road. Westlake officers briefly stopped the vehicle on Crocker, just south of Detroit. When officers approached, the vehicle took off heading south on Crocker, according to a statement from the police department.

Officers briefly pursued the vehicle before calling off the pursuit due to the suspect’s dangerous driving and the amount of traffic. The suspect’s SUV struck two vehicles near Crocker and Wyndgate Court. An occupant of one of the vehicles that was struck was seriously injured and was in stable condition at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

Officers arrested the suspect, a 36-year-old Brooklyn woman, after she crawled out of her vehicle. She was charged with aggravated assault, criminal flight, driving a vehicle while intoxicated and various traffic offences. She was arraigned in Rocky River City Court and taken to Cuyahoga County Jail. The suspect already had two OVI convictions, according to the Westlake Police Department.

OVI: I-90

On July 1, the Westlake Fire Department called the police department to say they were responding to a report of a man slumped while driving a vehicle on I-90 at Columbia Road.

Officers found the driver was awake but appeared confused. He denied falling asleep at the wheel but appeared drunk.

Officers administered field sobriety tests and then arrested the driver for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The 39-year-old Cleveland resident refused a breathalyzer test and was released from Westlake Jail after being given a court date in Rocky River City Court.

DCI: Bur Oak Drive

A concerned resident at 1:15 a.m. July 1 called to report a man was screaming and crying in the Bur Oak area.

Officers found the man tripping near Bur Oak and Detroit Road. The 31-year-old Avon resident appeared confused and intoxicated. He was taken into police custody for disorderly conduct while intoxicated and held in Westlake Jail for a sober person to take responsibility.
